Cowes Week 2022

Cowes Week 2022
#1: cropped to give a panorama - the motion of the boat I was on meant that getting images which could be stitched was tricky and I was reluctant to change lenses with the salt spray around.
#2: smaller boat so easier to make more of its shape whilst still showing the concentration of the crew; 1/2500s to freeze the spray.
#3: wide aperture (f5.6) and fast shutter speed (1/3200s); I'm pleased with the composition of this with the lines of the boat and the footwear - I took a whole series of shots and selected this one for the smiles.
#4: compositionally the idea was to try and get a symmetrical arrangement with boats going in opposite directions as they put about a marker buoy on the racing circuit. f5.6 as little depth of field needed and important to get lots of light in to reduce shutter speed (1/4000s) and keep ISO passably low (500).  Cropped to get the symmetry.
#5: this boat was about to put about and the crew are poised to change the sails; I played around with this view a lot in terms of composition and originally shot it with a shorter focal length to get more of the sails in and accentuate the lines but decided that the cockpit view made a better image.
#6: was back in the harbour at Cowes - nothing posed but these guys had just had a great day's racing and showed it to anyone with a camera.
